The winners for Loughborough in Bloom’s Best Spring Floral Displays competition have been announced – and it has been commented that this year’s entry standard was “higher than ever”.
Over the past few weeks, residents from all over Loughborough have been entering the competition, organised by Loughborough in Bloom Community Participation Group chair, Mike Jones and the Loughborough Echo.
The competition was open to Loughborough front gardens and any home floral display, including window boxes, which can be seen by passers-by.
Residents submitted their photos to the Echo and judges critiqued the entries on a number of areas including initial impact, sustainability and floral displays.
After a long deliberation, Betty Buchanan of Alan Moss Road was named the 2017 competition winner!

Ann and Roy Coulthard of Trellissick Close secured second place after impressing the judges with their hedge-cutting skills and use of space.

Mike Jones said: “The standard this year was higher than ever and everyone should be proud of the contribution they have made to Loughborough in Bloom and the pleasure they give to passers-by.”
The top three entries will be invited to a presentation in the Mayor’s Parlour at Loughborough Town Hall to receive their prizes.
